PROJECT HISTORY
In 2007, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the King Faisal Foundation (KFF) met to discuss collaboration between the two organizations in order to promote access to an international education experience in Saudi Arabia and the Arabic speaking world.
PHASE 1
In the course of 2008, the IB and KFF formulated a plan to implement the initial phase of this collaboration, and in January 2009, the first phase of the IB-KFF Project was begun.
Phase 1 of the IB-KFF Project focused on the King Faisal School (KFS), with the school serving as a “pilot” for developing and delivering of local-specific modules for training for primary school teachers and school.

PHASE 2
In April 2014, The King Faisal Foundation (KFF) and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) announced an extended partnership whereby a formalized educational project would bring the holistic IB educational programmes to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Funded through the generosity of KFF, this initiative plans towards the future of the kingdom whilst honoring the present and the past.
The cooperation between the IB and KFF intends to lay strong foundations for future leaders, innovators, professionals, and experts in their chosen field who will be able to bring their vision and talents to bear on the Kingdom’s economy, issues and initiatives.
The aim of the IB-KFF Project (Phase 2) is to support teachers within Saudi schools that will enable the development of a more student-centered learning style as well as guide teachers and learners to become more internationally minded. The desire is for greater connections and networking to be made for Saudi students in the global arena for learning and business. In addition, the project is designed to develop a network of trainers that can conduct teacher professional development in Saudi Arabia and the Arabic-speaking world.
With this aim and motivation, The “Developing learners, leaders and teachers for the future of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” initiative was commenced. The primary objective is to have a long-term, transformative effect on schooling and teacher professional development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
In line with The King Faisal Foundation mission, and with an investment of more than SAR (20) million from the Foundation to date, this initiative aims to gradually transform education in Saudi Arabia and the Arabic-speaking world to rival those of other leading nations.

new online and face to face PYP and MYP workshops on international education, educational change, leadership, pedagogy and classroom practice, and a range of relevant in class topics will be available for schools in the project
“Learning, leading and teaching for the 21st century”
workshops will include:
- 2-day leadership workshops with online activities for both PYP and MYP. Four members of the school leadership team will attend the workshops in addition to two officials from the local district education office.
- 2-day teacher workshops with online activities for both PYP and MYP in teaching and learning. Each school will send 18 teachers and 4 school leaders, to attend the workshops. Two officials from the local district education office will also participate in the training.

- Translation of documents and supporting materials for PYP and MYP
- The translation of Arabic language A1 documents for the IB Diploma Programme
- New suite of online Diploma courses in Arabic
- Translation of a number of IB Diploma Programme courses in Arabic so that those selected courses may be taught and assessed in Arabic
- Relevant subject guides, publications and workshop materials translated and available in Arabic
- New communications materials and resources in English and Arabic for stakeholder engagement with regard to the KFF-IB Project.
