MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDERS

 1

We were fortunate enough to grow up in the shadow of a man whose greatness was acknowledged not only in the heart of his family but in the eyes of a nation. Our father's love, discipline, and sense of responsibility instilled in us a desire, and perhaps even a need, to ensure that the spirit of King Faisal's altruistic ambitions would live on after his untimely death in 1975. After reflecting on who our father had been, what he had represented, and what he had set out to achieve, we felt that international philanthropy was a logical response. The formation of KFF was the means chosen to commemorate this exceptional man in a way that befitted the example of his life. The task at first seemed daunting. How could we presume to fulfill the dreams of a giant? Our humanitarian father was concerned for the welfare of peoples everywhere, particularly the disadvantaged. He thought globally at a time when many people focused on national issues. By inaugurating long-range economic and social welfare programs he provided much financial and moral support to developing nations worldwide. KFF tries to give substance to his vision of making the world a better place. Through an extensive program of activities, we hope to reach a diversity of people and care for some of their more ,pressing needs. We take just one step at a time but are rewarded by the knowledge that we have embarked on a great journey. The generosity of private contributions coupled with a wise investment strategy increase our ability to help more people in need. This is the truest mark of our success and the one which gives all of us the most gratification.

MESSAGE FROM PRINCE KHALID ALFAISAL

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

In human terms, four decades are equivalent to a generation, a span of time in which an individual is born and reaches maturity. This reference can be applied to the existence of King Faisal Foundation. In 1976, noble aspirations inspired by the exemplary life of King Faisal became a reality. From tentative conception through corporate adolescence to internationally respected maturity, KFF built a sound base on which it steadily has grown. For the past 40 years, KFF activities have touched countless lives around the world. Our many diverse programs have directly or indirectly brought a rare gift of hope to men, women, and children who might otherwise have few opportunities that could alter the paths of their lives. This period of development, evolution, and consolidation has seen us expand our objectives and give expression to our ideals. Today, we eagerly anticipate the next cycle of our journey. Through this website we show you an overview of what we have achieved. However, more importantly is introducing you to us. The strong desire to make a positive contribution to society is something that we at the Foundation, our generous donors, and our many beneficiaries have in common. Through these pages we invite you to share our mutual pride and joy in accomplishing this goal. We thank you, too, for caring and wanting to participate in our philanthropic activities.

MESSAGE FROM PRINCE BANDAR BIN SAUD BIN KHALID

Secretary General

When KFF was founded in 1976, the idea of creating a philanthropic organization as a memorial was a dramatic departure from prevailing Middle Eastern tradition. Instead of limiting their efforts to one easily manageable area of interest, the founders accepted the challenge of taking on a broad range of Islamic, cultural, and charitable endeavors which exemplified King Faisal's humanitarian values. In many communities around the world, particularly those in underprivileged nations, the Foundation has made positive contributions. These may be in the form of financial grants for scientific research, full scholarships for postgraduate studies, technical assistance in ongoing projects, or free research facilities in the organization's extensive libraries. The common thread is the determination to preserve Islamic culture and improve the human condition. Today the Foundation is a role model for other such institutions in the region. By continually setting precedents, its philanthropic achievements have given encouragement to those who share its goals.
